口腔内口臭診断のための有機的検査法に対する批判

Criticism of the organoleptic examination for the diagnosis of oral halitosis.

抄録

口臭測定の基準として、有機嗅覚検査（口腔内の臭いを嗅いで点数化する）が用いられてきた。しかし、有機触診の診断的価値にはいくつかの問題点があり、疑問視されている。本論文では、現代の技術とガス検知器や電子鼻を比較することにより、有機嗅覚検査に関するプロトコルや概念のリスク、矛盾、冗長性を再検討する。その結果，口臭の診断において，口腔内を嗅いで臭いをスコア化することが十分な根拠になるとは考えにくいことがわかった．

Organoleptic examination (sniffing and scoring oral odor) was used as a reference standard of halitosis measurement. However, there are several problems that make the diagnostic value of organoleptic examination questionable. This paper revisits risks, inconsistencies and redundancies in protocols and concepts related to organoleptic examination by comparing contemporary techniques and gas detectors or electronic noses. It can be concluded that there is no reason to think that scoring the odor by sniffing the mouth of the patients obtains sufficient evidence for the diagnosis of halitosis.
